Farmer’s Markets are taking Australia by storm – but visiting your ‘local’ week after week can leave you wanting more when it comes to variety. Imagine though, being able to shop at all of Australia’s best farmer’s markets from the comfort of your very own home! The Larder Door is an online grocery store that stocks the best market produce from seasonal and sustainable Australian micro-producers.
Husband and wife team Lena & Andrew from Bundanoon in NSW have always been prolific
farmer’s market shoppers. They have often travelled hundreds of kilometres for a good market and understand first hand just how time consuming it can be to find a fantastic range of artisan and small batch products.
“We will go a long way for a good market, because we believe that good food, locally sourced and made with love, honestly tastes better,” says Lena. “We know we’re not alone in that belief because there are new markets popping up around this beautiful country.”
In Larder Door, Lena and Andrew are addressing one of the main challenges that micro-producers in Australia face, which is finding the right places to sell their products. “Especially when you’re a one man band or a couple, it is really hard to find cafes, restaurants and grocery stores that will take a gamble and stock your product. We thought if we can provide a platform nationwide where people can purchase these products, it might help them get their brand name out there and get the ball rolling.
The more micro-producers out there, the better the market, especially in terms of primary producers, the more people that move into that space, the better off the whole industry will be.”With the launch of their online grocery store, The Larder Door enables market enthusiasts to shop at Farmer’s Markets across Australia without having to physically attend them. Foodies can select their own produce from the online store, with the added reassurance that every single product and food producer has not just passed Lena and Andrew’s taste test but meets The Larder Door’s Australian, Ethical and Micro-Producers criteria.
“Most of our producers have a presence at a couple of markets in their local areas and some also have online stores, but none of them are available in large chain stores. We are trying to create a platform for producers that haven’t got another stage yet. One thing they all have in common is that they put their hearts and souls into making the best products you can get. They also taste absolutely incredible!”
Larder Door also offer five product Taster Boxes, featuring curated seasonal products. Product boxes on offer include the Monthly Taster Box, Vegan Box, Gluten Free Box, Chutney Lovers Box and the Muesli Lovers Box.
Currently working with over forty small batch producers, The Larder Door provides Australia wide access to the some of the finest farm to plate products including Wits End Pulses (VIC), InnaMuse (NSW), Golden Whisk (WA), Juanita’s Kitchen (VIC), Boobs Nut Butter (QLD) and the Tasmanian Food and Wine Conservatory (TAS) to name just a few.
